Well done CPL! Shortlisted for Make UK Manufacturing Awards 2021

Awards season is obviously well under way, and we are delighted to have been informed that Cambridge Precision Ltd has been shortlisted for the Innovation category of the Make UK Manufacturing Awards 2021 (Midlands and East).

The regional winners will be announced at the upcoming Regional Dinner on 13 October 2021 at The Slate, Warwick Conference Centre.

The judges noted CPL’s pioneering development of a cobot/five axis ‘set and run’ system.

Having worked with supply partner Mills CNC, Cambridge Precision Ltd are the first precision engineering company in the UK to be using Doosan cobots in a way that connects automated loading with the most sophisticated of multi-axis machining centres.

The CPL cobots are programmed to repeat an operation as many times as the job requires.  The billets are set out on a tray exactly spaced so that the cobot arm can locate the piece and then move it carefully into the chamber of the 5 axis CNC machine.

Once set, the cobot can be left to complete the task, freeing up skilled engineers to set and supervise the more complex jobs.

This is clearly a significant step forward in the manufacture of precision engineered components and CPL are proud to have been recognised for creativity and innovation in a period of time when it would have been easy to rein in, rather that strike out with new technologies.
